Comenius Visit to Barcelona

Last week as part of the Comenius 100 Project, Mrs Gascoigne, Mrs Downes, Mrs Hampton and Mrs Rorison travelled to visit one of our partner schools ‘Maristes Valldemia’. The school is situated in the town of Mataro on the coast near Barcelona in Catalonia, Spain.

It is very different to Shoscombe as it caters for children from 3-18 years and has 1300 pupils and 78 teachers!

The Shoscombe staff travelled with staff from St Julian’s Wellow and also met visitors from our partner schools in France, Ireland and Denmark. We were able to look around the school, meet pupils and staff, visit classrooms and discuss the links between the projects we are all involved in. A special family day took place during our visit and the school was also celebrating Candlemas  (Festival of Light) .

We had opportunities to sample local food such as tapas and paella.

We were also able visit the amazing Gaudi cathedral ‘Sagrada Familia’ and the Picasso Museum in Barcelona.
