Starting School in 2020
When you are first offered a place in Reception you will receive an offer letter from the Local Authority. It is essential that you confirm with them that you wish to accept this offer so that any child who is on a waiting list can be offered your place if you no longer need it.
Once you have confirmed that you wish to accept your offer the school will write to you with information about our Stay and play settling in sessions. These are sessions when you and your child can come into our Early Years classroom to meet the staff and become familiar with the setting.
Over the course of these sessions we will encourage you to leave your child in the classroom while you get to know the other parents away from them in the hall. This is always done at the pace with which your child is most comfortable as we recognise what a big step this is for you and your child.
Currently our school is closed in response to the Covid-19 crisis. As a result we may not be able to offer settling in sessions in the way we had planned. We are currently developing a ‘virtual’ tour and other resources that will help your child to understand more about starting school in September. We will contact each family by email with more details.
If you would like more information about the process of starting school please contact Mrs Ceri Mapstone via the school office. Mrs Mapstone is the Early Years leader at Shoscombe and will lead you and your child on this very exciting journey of starting school.

Update 18th June 2020
Unfortunately, we are unable to offer our original stay and play sessions. However, we are offering a stay and play session on either Thursday 16th or Friday 17th July when the school will be closed to all children apart from our new reception intake. A letter is being sent out this week with details of your child’s stay and play session.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding.
Update 22nd May 2020
We are still hoping that the settling in sessions will go ahead, but as we know you will appreciate, we need to wait and see what happens over the coming weeks. We will continue to keep you updated.
We are wanting to arrange a Parents Information Evening in July, this will be an opportunity for you to meet staff as well as other parents of children starting in September. If this cannot be held ‘in person’ we are hoping to hold a virtual meeting. Again, we will continue to keep you updated.
Below is our parent pack for you to access, should you wish. There is a deadline for forms to be returned, if you would like a copy posted to you, please contact the school office on: email@example.com
Please could I remind you that if you haven’t replied to the welcome letter regarding home visits that you do so as soon as possible.
