Phonics

At Shoscombe, we use Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised as our phonics programme.

Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised

Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised is a phonics programme which aims to build on children’s speaking and listening skills as well as  preparing children for learning to read by developing their phonic knowledge and skills.

Our phonics teaching starts in EYFS, with the aim of all children becoming fluent readers as they move into Key Stage 2.

We introduced Little Wandle to our children at Shoscombe in February 2022.

Pure Sounds

It is really important that the children are saying all sounds as ‘pure sounds’ (ie not saying an ‘uh’ sound on the end) . These videos show how all sounds should be pronounced.

Phase 2 single sounds

Phase 2 single sounds and consonant digraphs

Phase 3 vowel digraphs

Grapheme Support

Below are our Phase 2 and 3 graphemes that the children will learn in Reception. Children in Years 1 and 2 use the Shoscombe Phonics mnemonics and grapheme cards in conjunction with the Little Wandle scheme. For any support for your child please check with their class teacher.
