Combe Down Tunnel Walk

As part of our KS1 topic Under the Ground, children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 walked about 3 miles along the former Somerset and Dorset Railway and through the Combe Down Tunnel to Midford Station. We have been learning about why and how tunnels are made and how methods of tunnel building have changed since Combe Down Tunnel was first opened. We have also learnt about the decline of the railway and mining industry. This research into the history and geography of our local area links with our Comenius 100 Project objectives. The children loved the music and lights!
